Is this an orphanage?

So after putting together 3 cribs in under 3 hours, Bryan exclaimed, "Could you imagine if we were having quadruplets!" It was hard to get a good shot of the room. My camera does not zoom out enough to capture the "Cider House Rules" orphanage feel that's really going on!

Matching Maternity

So Jessica is 34 weeks and I am 24 weeks. I guess that figure of measuring 1o weeks larger for triplets is true! And does Irene look a little too happy about being the skinniest friend right now?

Ryan Pitches In

Ryan is a such a help in the kitchen. Obsessive floor cleaning is in his DNA.

Gratitude at 6 months

Eric, the baby whisperer.

Bedrest day 10. Maybe I should not count it by days because it feels more like day 100. I want to be reflective about this experience as it happens even though I know later reflections will have deeper meaning (I hope!), but for now I know that I have so much support and love that I feel grateful for. We have had many visitors during this convalescence and although it frustrates me to not play hostess there is a great deal of serenity to be found in not being able to care if my bathroom is clean or not. To be able to accept help is another milestone, but I need to work on some of the guilt that accompanies that acceptance. And so, my days are measured by cervical centimeters and water bottles, pages, and calories consumed. Perhaps, I should not be measuring/measured at all. How's that for reflective!

Making Lists

Official bed rest has begun. So, I started making lists of things I have accomplished so that I feel less useless. On a scale from 1-5 *
Books read:

  1. Little Earthquakes ***-especially if you are pregnant or have been. Warning though, one character does lose a baby early in the book
  2. Girl's in Peril (novella) ****
  3. Middlesex *****
  4. Hamlet (a re-read for school) *****
  5. Light on Snow ***
  6. Into the Wild ****
  7. Wild Swans (really long book, but worth the time) ****

Movies watched:

  1. Oceans 13 ****
  2. An Incomplete Life *** (I do love J-Lo)
  3. Evan Almighty ***
  4. In the Land of Women ***
  5. Pursuit of Happiness ****
  6. Knocked Up **
  7. Bourne Ultimatum *** (Not enough shirtless Matt Damon)
  8. Maria Full of Grace ***** (subtitled but riveting)
  9. Notes on a Scandal ***** (Love Dame Judy)
  10. Evening *** (If you thought you hated Claire Danes before, this will confirm it)
  11. Once ***** (Irish "musical." Very cool)
  12. Frida ***** (Skip it if girls making out is not for you)
  13. Mind the Gap ***
  14. Freedom Writers *** (Very teachery)
  15. Sound of Music ***** (I thought the soundtrack would be good for the womb)
  16. The Holiday **** (Good nonthinking chick flick)
  17. Good Night and Good Luck *** (A little slow)
  18. Superbad * (teaching high school has made me jaded)
  19. The Last King of Scotland ***** (Heavy but really good)
  20. The Matador **** (I never loved Pierce Brosnan so much)
  21. Bridge to Terabithia (So depressing I can't believe it was marketed as a children's film. A good lesson for me to preview any movie we take the triplets to)
  22. The Kingdom *
  23. Babel * (Maybe it's "baby brain" but I so did not appreciate it)
  24. Catch and Release ** (Chick flick)

Rock Star Treatment

On Saturday night, Bry, Amanda, Eric and I went to Bistro Ole in Asbury Park for dinner. Normally, they have a pretty strict seating policy, making sure your entire party is present before showing you to the table. I ducked ahead of everyone to see what the wait was like. Luckily there was no wait so I went out and told Bry to park and texted Amanda and E to see what their estimated time of arrival would be. When I went back in to the restaurant, I let the hostess know that my party was just parking and would be here soon. Normally, I would have had to stand in the cramped foyer until everyone showed up. Weirdly, the hostess promptly replied, "Oh, you can go right in and sit." "Oh thanks, " I replied, thinking they were just slow that night and that there were plenty of tables. Once inside, I saw that it was crowded and thought to myself that I hoped it was really okay that I was sitting alone at my four top. Bryan came in a few minutes later, smiling. He said, "I came in and asked if my wife was sat." The hostess replied, "Oh the real big pregnant lady?" Apparently I am huge and did not know it. The night proceeded with extra attention and privileges from the colorful owner, Rico, telling tables around us that I was pregnant with triplets once he inquired about my condition and cutting whole lines of people at the bathroom without asking to. This house arrest is causing me to miss out on a lot of star privileges!

When the host came over to say high to us and ask about mine and Amanda's pregnancies, he let us know that we just missed a couple who just had triplets. He began to say that they were taking a break from the hospital to eat and then discreetly cut himself off. Funny how a male restaurant owner had more tact than most mothering women I know, knowing that sharing a story about hospitalized triplets may not be the sort of thing I want to hear while enjoying a Saturday night out. Gay man more sensitive than young moms. Who would of thought.
